Hey! My name is Dr. Akilah Cadet. I am the Founder and CEO of Change Cadet, an organizational development consulting firm that offers services that support embedding belonging into overall company culture, identity and strategy. As a Forbes Next 1000 Entrepreneur my work is behind some of the biggest brands you use everyday and I am not even kidding!
Dismantling white supremacy through storytelling is at the core of who I am and my work as a leader, speaker, creative director, producer, art interprerter, writer, editor, co-owner of the Oakland Roots and Soul soccer teams, and author of White Supremacy is All Around: Notes From a Black Disabled Woman in a White World.
I literally have all the degrees. For my fellow nerds out there I have Bachelor of Science in Health Education in Community Based Public Health, a Master of Public Health, and a Doctorate of Health Sciences in Leadership and Organizational Behavior (that I received from a med school). I live in and love Oakland, California. I celebrate my disability and even sit on the Ehlers Danlos Society board, the foremost organization in the world of Ehlers-Danlos sydrome, the rare condition I live with. I am also a Virgo and yest that means something along with being a proud Beyoncé advocate with incredible style and shoe game.
Welcome to my substack!
I call it the Change Cadet Action Network because one, it is a cute name and two it is all about what you CCAN do everyday to learn and unlearn (see what I did there). I will share content as regualry as a disabled woman who runs a company, is an author, and leads professional soccer teams can. Basically, give me grace as I have to listen to my body (like me and the ER are besties) as I do the work along with you. Thanks for being here. Send me messages or DMs over on social media (@changecadet for everythang) and know together you and I can keep being amazing!
Why thank you! I have myopathic EDS. Less than one and million people have the type I have. So I am the prettiest Barbie :)
I have Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and I’m very happy to have found your work🌷
