I'm a proud Californian, born and raised. It's always been and will be my home. Although I live in Northern California I travel to Southern California a lot. I have family there (safe). I have clients I love who are helping others. I know folks who have lost their homes. Friends. What is happening is beyond devastating with fires still not contained. What Californians (and others) are experiencing is collective grief. Loss of homes, businesses, lives, and memories.
You can grieve a home where holidays were held, where you grew up, or purchased on your own. You can grieve a restaurant or store you always went to. You can grieve a drive on the coastline. You can grieve your elementary school or church. These places provided safety and softness. A full belly. A late night. Things are forever changed. So many hearts are broken.
So give yourself grace with the grief.
If able, donate your time, money, clothes, items, self to help those in need. Everyone, regardless of intersectionality, lost what was once cherished. It's not about politics it's about people who lost their lives and those who have to live their lives forever changed. Here is a list of information and resources. Please be kind and remain grateful.
